The following plea is typical of many that are received by me because the camps in Bangladesh are exceedingly dangerous. Terrorists find their way into the camps and kill people; sometimes whole families are murdered. Often young people are abducted and forced into the military in Myanmar. This situation is totally unsatisfactory. Refuges are entitled to protection under international laws, but these laws are being ignored.
My name is Somira, a Rohingya refugee woman and a victim of genocide, persecution, atrocities, and oppression by the brutal Myanmar military. I was shot in the leg, leaving me disabled. I now face severe difficulties walking or going anywhere. I have visited NGO hospitals in the camp for treatment, but they said my leg may not be fully or properly healed. Now, ARSA armed groups are physically threatening me face-to-face in the camp. I am constantly scared—even in my sleep—fearing they will harm me. They have recorded killings of many people, and I dread how soon they might kill me, and not only me but also my young sons. I have reported everything to the UNHCR protection focal point. I visited and met with them repeatedly, but they show no intention to help me. I cried, begged, and pleaded with them, yet they did nothing. I feel utterly alone in this world; no one is helping me. There is no safe way for someone like me to stay in this camp. I have considered taking my own life out of desperation. I have shared my situation, circumstances, and case everywhere—with every network possible. I desperately hope you see this message. Thank you from the core of my heart. Sincerely, Somira
